I put 6.14 down for brumation today and I was just wondering if anyone else has done the same and if not when do you?

I put mine down a bit late last season... This year I was thinking of putting them down December 1st and waking them up in mid March...

I put mine down from Halloween to Christmas. I'll also have a second later brumation for some I'm putting a little more weight on from December to March.

I didn't brumate last winter as we had an unusually long and cold winter and my Westerns seemed no worse for the wear because of it. I also had a fairly typical breeding season, in fact a little bit better than last years. I haven't determined whether or not I'm going to brumate this year or not because it appears that I still have several gravid females this late in the season.

I think we have to ask ourselves why we are brumating. I try to follow nature's cycles, believing brumation is a good rest period for the females, that enhances their hormonal activity in the spring. It is apparent that some females do not need brumation, as they ovulate and lay eggs anyway. I have heard that males need cool weather to produce viable sperm. This isn't always true, as I have had males that were never brumated, and they mated and produced offspring.

While I intend to brumate mine in mid-November, I don't think there is any purpose in keeping them brumated for 3 months. I'll bring them out after 6 weeks and see what happens.

but i don't have any cues to do so,
