Worth another try?

FireStorm Oct 03, 2010 03:51 PM

I have a 50% Poss. Het Albino female who was bred to a 100% Het Albino male in 08. She produced 8 eggs and no Albinos. I didn't breed her in 09, and now I'm trying to decide what to do with her this year. It looks like I may be getting a breedable Albino male... should I try again to prove her out, just in case? I was originally just going to breed her to a Fire or Mojave (she's really light w/tons of blushing) since I figured 8 eggs was enough. But now that I'm getting an Albino.... maybe I was just unlucky on the first clutch (unlikely, but not impossible I guess). What do you guys think?

it would definatly help having a visual albino as the sire. you may have missed it on the first clutch. my buddy has bred his het pieds 3 years in a row. male het pied to 2 female het pieds. 1st year i think 11 eggs between the 2 and no pieds 2 year 11 eggs and 5 pieds 2 from 1 clutch and 3 from the other. 3rd year not sure how many eggs and no pieds again.
so id give it AT LEAST 1 more year if not 2 to try and prove her out.

I'd say it's worth a shot especially with a visual male. I got 6 eggs from het stripe x het stripe with no stripes in 2008/2009. Got a visual male and bred the female again in 2009/2010 got 6 eggs again but this time 3 Stripes.

I would get an albino if you still want to produce albinos.
That would help to prove her out. If there is none, I would call it real bad luck or she isn't proved. At least you would have 100% hets this time for the future.

Or you could try again with your 100% hets.
But who knows, may be he isn't really a 100% hets, depending on where you got it, even if it's from a reputable breeder.
After all, some people purchased hets from from Nerd and they never proved.

I bred a 100% het to a 100% het two seasons ago. Got 8 eggs. All visual normals. Bred the same pair last year. Got two visual morphs. Also bred a pair of 100% double hets. Got 8 eggs with one visual of one of the morphs. If you have a visual I would try her again. As stated above at least you will know you now have 100% hets.

I will definitely try her with the albino male...if she doesn't prove out I wouldn't mind holding back a female 100% Het or two. I only have 1 female 100% Het Albino...she's iffy on size to breed this year. I'm beginning to wish I had a visual to prove out my poss. het pieds next season...

Here's a pic of the Poss Het Albino in question...worst case she's a pretty normal. She was my first snake so I like her either way.
Thanks again,
Shelly

I hatched 12 eggs 1 yr. from (1.2) het hypo x het. hypo, and they were all "wild type" the following year with the same pairing, again 12 eggs, gave me 1.2 hypos....
