GregBennett?? and another ? for others

DixieDawg9107 Oct 03, 2010 06:25 PM

Greg, I went to the AP site and didnt see any racks described as V18 like the ones you posted in an earlier thread. I was wondering what boxes they use and if they are on the site. Also if you have any opinions on their economy racks compared to the sterilite racks.

I was wondering if anyone has a preference of belly or back heat and if anyone has noticed any benefit of one over the other?

Thanks,

Bryan

I use both belly heated and bottom heated rack systems and see no difference between the two... Belly heat does not help digestion like some claim... What helps digestion is a raised metabolism that it is achieved when a reptiles core temp is optimal... How the core temp is raised is unimportant...

Bryan,

They are not listed on the website. I had to call them. I had them special make the racks I have but they will make them in any height (17 is the normal height, mine are 19 high).

The tubs are made by Vision Products. They are the V-18 tubs.

I prefer having the extra plastic so I don't really like the economy racks. I'm sure they will make them for you if you want them. I figured these will be the last racks (other than buying more soon) I ever buy and didn't mind spending the extra money for the extra plastic.

I prefer belly heat for the most part. The way AP makes the racks the tubs never touch the heat tape as it's recessed into the shelf so you never have to worry about the tubs tearing up the heat tape over time.

I hope that helps. Tell Ali at AP I sent you.

Thanks Greg. How do feel about their sterilite racks they have listed?

I definitely will mention you when I order. I actually live out in Gwinnett and wouldnt mind seeing your setup. I know you dont know me though and totally understand if you would rather not. If you were familiar with AHP Exotics in Loganville, I was a partial owner. Well thanks again for your feedback.

Hey Dawg, You need to hook up with my son Erik, he's in Riverdale. He's been building and buying racks for several years. He's kind of busy, so isn't always on the forum, but he has a lot of knowledge about what works for the various snakes.

I prefer belly heat for my hognose, but 90% of the time they are not over the heat tape. They do move over it after eating, and often before shedding.

I have a trio of Arizona Mountain Kings, and they didn't seem to like the belly heat at all. I moved them to a back heated rack and dropped the temp a little, and they are doing well.
