New to Corn Snake Breeding

feralswirl Oct 04, 2010 02:45 AM

I am getting three corn snakes of different morphs to breed. They were just born this summer, so I will have a long time before breeding. I have owned several snakes, but never more than one at a time. So I have a couple questions.

One - can the young snakes be housed together for a time, or should I seperate them right away?

Two - I am getting one male and two females. Will I have time, in one breeding season, to use that boy with both females? How long does the actual breeding take from the time of introduction?

Thats all for now - ty!

It is always beset to house corn snakes separately at all times. The only time more than one should be in the same cage, is when you are about to breed.

One male can easily breed with two or more females. Not sure on the exact length of time...but a couple nights with one female, 2-3 days rest (male kept along) then 1-2 nights with the other female...and repeat for a period of several weeks or till the males loose interest in the females (typically this will mean the females are pregnant...and won't be receptive to mating anymore).

Courtship and copulation with corn snakes is pretty active...and when I bred them, I would observe frequent matings over the period of several weeks. I only had one female and one male so I kept them together during mating season, with only 2-3 day break once a week to give both a chance to eat etc...if they are so inclined.
