white sided bull question

Tony D Oct 05, 2010 06:07 PM

Can anyone explain the genetics of this morph to me. I really tlike the contrast and was wondering if it had been crossed with xanthic to enhance this quality. Thanks in advance.

That is an interesting question because some of them almost seem axanthic, while others have a fair amount of yellow/tan on them. That also transcends to ghosts as well - i have a ghost here that is basically white with black markings, but you see some that look more like a typical hypo color. Unfortunately, I do not have a good answer for you!

I have produce a couple of them, including one from this year. Going into the project I was excited but the results are a disappointment. They are super hard to distinguish. The Axanthic Whitesided are a little nicer looking then the straight up Whitesides. Thats my thoughts and results but I would like to hear from anybody else that has produced any. Maybe others have had better results then me.

That kind of jives with what my expectation of such a project would be. The reason I ask is that I would really like to have a nice black and white pit and but can't keep northerns in NC. The white sided seems the next closest thing and some are quite handsome but others are somewhat hypo-ish.

Tony,

White sideds can vary, like Jason said. Here is mine:

If you are looking for a black and white pit that is not a northern pine, I know Jason Nelson from Envy may be soon breeding Skull Valley Great Basin gophers. From pics I have seen, they are very nice black and white colored gophers. If you are able to find a sharp, contrasting Miami Co. Axanthic bull, then that may be another option. Deppei Deppei ( Durango Mtn. Pines ) often have a very good color composition of black and white on the first third of their bodies, while the rest often turns yellow towards the tail.
