Conclusion on dead clutch...

RyanT Oct 05, 2010 08:36 PM

Posted below about my Granite clutch all dying in their eggs. Turned out 2 days ago when I cut them that 1 was actually still alive. It was the nicest one out of the 5 and the only one really showing a major Granite thing that I was breeding for. I touched it and it moved, seemed to be alright. This morning it had it's snout out and I assumed it was breathing air. The pics of what I found when I go home from work are below...

John, to answer your question from today, I had 1 nail whole in the egg boxes for air. Exact method I've been using for 4 years and have successfully incubated about 80 or more eggs with. I can believe it could have been a lack of air exchange throughout incubation, but also wonder about a possible lethal combo of the 2 Granite genes.

???

By the way, I pulled the snake out of the egg. When I checked tonight, it was still the same way it was this morning, with just the tip of it's snout out of the egg. So it at least tried to hatch.

When I first saw the post I thought maybe it was a lethal gene combo, but didn't say anything.
Could be.
