Hi Joseph, I was just thinking about twins this morning. I was awaiting the hatching of a few eggs from a pink pastel/het pink
mating. I could see the little hognose against the side of one egg and it was pink pastel. However, when the egg hatched, it was a het. I opened the egg further, and there at the bottom was a pink pastel twin that was dead. I don't think it is too common to have twins, but most twins are maternal, and mine was obviously paternal, the egg being fertilized by two different sperm. I wish the pink would have survived.

That's a fascinating account Wendell. Could you please elaborate on the pairing? Which sex was the visual PPA and which one was the het? The more I delve into studying genetics, the more I'm drawn in.

Hi Troy, Sorry I took so long replying. The male was my BHB pink pastel and the het was a BHB female. There were infertile eggs in the clutch, so I'd have been better off if one of the sperm had found his way to one of them. LOL

No worries Wendell, thanks for taking the time to respond.

It is a shame about the PPA being dead, that would have truly been an interesting study to see how both twins would have matured. Do you recall what the sex of each of the twins were?

I've been reading up on reproduction and inheritance and I find this case to be very interesting as it goes outside the scope of the literature I've currently read. I would love to further my understanding of how radical genetic development like this happens. Thanks again Wendell.
