Starting to see the lewisi

Really Oct 08, 2010 08:50 AM

In the eight months since my big green male iguana passed away, Kismet the nubila/caymanesis/lewisi hybrid has shed four times. Suddenly she is showing much more color and her head is starting to elongate. I'm finally starting to see the lewisi in her, though it's always hard to capture the subtleties of color in a photograph, even on a sunny day.

It was a beautiful day yesterday and I took Kismet outside for a while on her leash and let our Sulcatta graze on the lawn. Kismet enjoyed nibbling a few dandelions.

I thought I posted three pics, but only posted the one with the Sulcatta! You can't see how her head has changed in the picture above. These are a bit better, even if Ricochet isn't in them. lol

Nice! At what age did you start putting a leash on your Cyclura? Anybody else out there using a leash and if so, what brand do you like? I have a 40" Cuban and a 36" Rhino that I would like to see if I can get them out in the yard some (not together of course) without them freaking out.

I started putting a leash on Kismet several years ago. She was a little resistant at first, but I always associated it with something good. I'd give her her favorite treat (blueberries) once it was on and then we'd go do something fun like go outside or go for a ride in the car. She loves to ride in the car so that was always a good reward.
