Another Savy question

So I was told that I could feed my savannah monitor ground turkey... Does it need to be "browned"?? I've seen black throat monitors eating raw ground turkey...Just wanted to make sure.

I have feed mine raw ground turkey for years. Definitely not very often, but once every few months.

I always cooked my ground turkey in the microwave for a few seconds.

Frankly if they can eat frozen thawed mice why not the frozen thawed turkey? THe frozen thawed mice are not any cleaner.

ground turkey is NOT a complete prey.
It's NOT a regular food for any monitor

Ground turkey would be ok in a pinch if you were waiting for mice or any other whole food item you normally feed your monitor.A lot of posters are worried that feeding items out of convenience developes poor husbandry practice-whole prey items are best for monitors why feed anything else.

i feed my tegu primarily raw ground turkey.

ludofrombelgium Oct 11, 2010 01:35 AM

Not a good thing

necroticism Oct 12, 2010 01:30 AM

why not? with fruit as well of course, but what is wrong with ground turkey? the tegu breeders i spoke to reccomended that over rodents and canned tegu food. sorry if im hijacking the thread btw.

ludofrombelgium Oct 12, 2010 03:10 AM

Because it's NOT whole prey, and nothing can replace whole preys.
This food lack majors and minors elements.
