Nighttime heat

Shottz Oct 08, 2010 09:53 PM

Do you guys put out decent nighttime heat? My reptile room is around 78-80 at night without and heat being produced in the terrarium. I put a 60 watt heat emitter in there and it gets about 110 below the emitter and 90 or so in the cage. Should I remove the heat emitter just in case it gets to hot in there or should I keep it in? He seems to sit right in the 110 spot while he sleeps but he feels really warm when I put my hand on him, all my other lizards head for the cool spots at night. Its a baby rhino

I leave a basking spot of about 85 degree for my green iguana, but he doesn't like sleeping under it. He always sleeps on the cool side and occasionally move to bask if he needs it. I'm not sure how cold it has to get for a Cyclura, but I hear they like it cooler than greens.

Well I was talking about nighttime, I think during the day the basking is 120 . Mines almost 120 during the day and he doesn't move from it, he gets as close as he can. Thinking about raising it some more.

78-80 is fine at night. Sounds like he can heat up during the day so you are okay.
If it makes you feel better knowing its in there, no harm done. If it were me I would remove it and save a bit $$ on my elec. bill.

Well the good thing it is going to start snowing soon so all the extra heat doesn't hurt me like it does in the summer time. I have learned to hate power bills. I got 18 snakes all with tank heaters and running MVBs for the beardies and tegu's just makes it worse.

Oh well, price you pay for reps
