10.0 Linear bulbs

timmah Oct 09, 2010 11:31 AM

I hear everyone using the repti sun 10.0s from zoo med. Has anyone ever used the repti glo 10.0s from exo terra? They have them at the pet store here and they run about the same as the repti sun 10.0s but I am not sure about the UBV release.

Reptisun gives out more UVB....

Agreed. I've measured quite a few bulbs and Rept 10.0 are superior to UVB output.

Also, just my own personal opinion/expierence..I never buy UVB from pet stores because I do not think that pet stores (as opposed to online/reptile suppliers) are responsible enough to provide me with "new" bulbs. (i always need About 10 at any given time also) Stores like Petco and Petsmart take back returns w/o reciepts, also the likelyhood that someone used the bulb and put it back on the shelves is much higher. Also, you dont know how long the bulbs have been sitting on the shelves and I just dont take that risk, for the amount of money i am laying out.

I always buy from LLL.

Well I use a MVB as well, but I am not sure how much I trust MVB's so I use a linear and a MVB to ensure that im getting some UV output. Both bulbs are over a wire-mesh screen and I know that cuts of some rays.

MVB puts out a lot of UVB.... I think more than the sun even.... I've never used them; I've always used the florescent tube, and it works fine. My iguana jumped off a 6 foot perch and he was fine afterward...in fact was runnin' around like a monkey in a nut house. I've heard of people's turtle's shell got better within a month, more or less, with the florescent tube. The first week they gained their appetite back after putting up the tube and gradually got better and better until they were back to normal. Don't put it over the a fine screen mesh! I hear it prevents a lot of the UVB from reaching the animals.
