Early hatching?

ballgraff Oct 10, 2010 05:54 PM

Has anyone ever experienced eggs hatching considerably early. I have a clutch that was laid on Aug.31, by a female who I was expecting to lay for almost 2 months. Here it is day 40 and the eggs have dimpled, 1 more so than the others, for about a week now. Temps and humidity are perfect. Just wanted to know if anyone had a similar experience. Could they hatch early if the female held out on laying them? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Eric

I once had a clutch hatch on day 52 from a female that waited 45 days to lay, though day 52 isn't really "early". generally anywhere from 52-60 days after being laid is when they'll hatch, sometimes even longer. It's normal for eggs to start to collapse about 2 weeks or so prior to hatching, so if they are on day 40, you're right on schedule.

Yeah, the earliest I have had them hatch was day 54. Not really worried about it just thought that if she took longer to lay, maybe they would take less incubation? Thanks for the reply.

Not likely that they were developing inside the female.Eggs will dimple about 2 weeks prior to hatching, but not all of them do this.I have had some clutches stay full until hatching in the same incubator with all the other clutches.Terry
