Eastern Milks (Dane Co WI)

Adam_S Oct 10, 2010 07:12 PM

Making the best of missing out on the NARBC show in Tinley Park, I borrowed some field time, which was scarce this year. I uncovered several Eastern Milks enjoying the weather (under flat rocks). The little Fox snake was uncovered beneath a small piece of railroad wood, my last flip of the day and probably my last of 2010.

Nice! I like the "heart" pattern on the easterns.

I also had the luck to flip a very cold eastern today.

Very nice pics--I missed out on Tinley Park as well--wish I would have been able to do some field herping like you.

I was glad to be outdoors on foot during our 80 degree October weather, rather than on the road to IL. Still would have liked to make the show too.

Those are some excellent finds - I always enjoy finding E. Milks and Fox Snakes in the field.

Thanks Tim, that's a great pic by the way. Eastern Milks are common around here, and are my favorite to find. I love their colors and variability. I don't find a lot of Fox snakes, the little one I uncovered on Sunday capstones the season for me and will give me something to remember during our upcoming WI winter.

Great finds man! It seems to be especially rare to see any fox snakes posted about that are found in the field these days.

congrats on flippin' those guys!

Thanks Doug! Fox snakes are a rare find for me (this was my 2nd). I think I mouthed the words "nothing's ever under there ..." just before flipping a piece of wood, which is about 8x20 inches, loose enough to be kicked into the air along the railroad tracks, and one I already flipped less than 24 hours earlier on Saturday. They must have really been on the move over our warm weather weekend.
