Tall vs low tubs for large adult more

monkeyface Oct 12, 2010 12:08 AM

Hi again!

I only keep a single ball python at the moment and have some space to spare in the apartment. I currently have my large male. He is currently roaming within his low 6 inch high 41 qt tub and looks like he could benefit from a slightly taller box.

I was thinking something with 12inches in height (still a plastic tub of course). With only 1 snake I don't mind the extra little bit of work it takes to manage the larger box.
I found one at my local walmart that has the same floor space as a 41 qt tub but double the height with a white lid.

Would this stress him out or do you think it would be ok to have the extra height for him?

Also, does it make a difference what colour the tub lid is? Solid white vs clear?

Thanks!

While BPs don't need the extra height, it won't hurt them provided you can control temps and humidity well enough. I kept my import female YB in a 12" tall tub for a while until she settled in at the recommendation of another breeder who had good luck keeping imports in taller tubs. I liked it because it gave me the ability to give her deeper bedding which some snakes seem to really like... I don't think the lid color matters as long as some light gets into the tub.
