When is a beardie considered an adult?

bruce_y Oct 13, 2010 04:38 PM

My little one is 10 months old now. At what point is she considered an "adult?" In other words, when should I start slowing down on insects in favor of greens, and when should I be concerned about brumation?

Btw, she generally shunned greens for the past 10 months. This week, she can't stop eating them. Strange how they flip preferences so quickly.

Thanks!
Bruce

Time wise they are probably true adults at close to 18 months.

As far as when to change their food weight is a better determining factor. At about 400-450 grams it's a good time to go with one live meal every other day. All they care to eat. The opposite day offer only a nutritious salad.

Here's a good source for nutrition information.

My suggestion is to start with mustard greens and some romaine or dandelion with a little butternut squash for color. Leave a bottomful of water in the bowl and mist it and the salad won't dry out. When salad eating becomes regular you can switch out the romaine for a more nutritious choice.

Typically 14-18 months adulthood is reached... I like to have insects down to about 10-20% of the daily diet by 14 months. However, if the dragon is looking chubby, reducing insects sooner is a good idea.
