Hi there, what does everyone here like using aspen or newspaper? What best for bp?
I use 1/2 of the tub lined with aspen, the other 1/2 with cypress mulch. No newspaper.

I use Sani Chips (spelling). Works fine, absorbs the moisture well and very easy to clean.
Question: Why would you use half and half? Is there a specific reason for this? Or just by choice?

i use cypress mulch for all of my bps, i used to mix 50/50 cypress and aspen, i did it because i liked the way it looked. lol but i stopped mixing them.
I use aspen on the back 1/2 near the heat where they like to sit the longest. It is lighter, they can dig down in it, and stays dry back there so it doesn't mold. I like the BPs to stay on a dry substrate as often as possible to reduce the chances of belly rot and other moisture-related conditions.
I use cypress mulch on the front 1/2 of the tub near the "air holes". Here I can keep it moist, the snakes can access it for when they are shedding, and it doesn't mold. So even when the water bowl gets tipped or splashes I don't have to change out the bedding for worry of mold.
I have no problems with stuck sheds, URIs, or rots using this system.

I like using aspen. It's clean looking, fairly cheap, smells great, and It keeps the humidity right where I want it. Plus when they're cruisin around in their rack they make little depressions and curl up in them. Works perfect for me.
I've never had a problem with mold, but mostly because I check my balls every day and if they are TOO WET, I remove that bedding and replace with dry bedding.
I know people who have rooms with higher humidity so mold was a problem for them so they used cypress mulch which I'm considering switching to as well.

I use unprinted newspaper inside the tub. Within the larger tub I use another smaller tub with peat moss. I like the idea the snakes can burrow inside the smaller tub as if they're under a tree stump in the wild. This gives the tub a clean appearance and all I have to do is roll up the paper and replace it.
