Question about primer/sealant

soma215 Oct 13, 2010 08:39 PM

My contractor just finished up w/ our bathroom and left behind a full 1 gallon can of Zinsser's Bulls Eye 123 water based primer. It says that it is mold and mildew resistant, dries in 1 hour, and seals wood, masonary, & stucco. There is no mention of toxic/ non-toxic.

Does anyone have any experience with this or know anything about it? I'm working on a new cage for my iguana and would like to know if it can be used to help seal the inside. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you!

You know, there's a million fine looking women in the world, dude. But they don't all bring you lasagna at work. Most of 'em just cheat on you.

Not the kind of sealant your looking for...primer must be coated and its only RESISTANT, not proof. Technically its not even a sealant.

I use this stuff all the time...when painting houses.

Depending on what your top-coating it with it may work, however what your seeing it as is like a masonry sealer like Drylok or the similar product.

The product you have is non-toxic, by definition. It is not toxin free...once dry it is relatively safe.

The job of primer is to stick to the bare surface of what you are painting in order to provide a suitable surface for the top-coat paint to stick to.

As stated by Jeremy, it isn't a sealant in the way you are hoping.

Thank you Jeremy & Mark for your replies and info, very helpful. I think I'm going to see if I can exchange the unopened can of primer for a can of Drylock.

Let us know how it works out. Drylock will work but it is a little grainy and leaves a slight texture, even on smooth surface.

It all depends on the application.
