Leucistic is a recessive morph?

joshtrout Oct 14, 2010 08:27 AM

Been following this forum for quite a while now, just first time to post. A lot of the breeders in the ads on kingsnake list leucistic hognoses as a recessive morph (from what I understand nobody has created it yet, so there are no images for it). The question I have is why is it listed as a recessive morph? I was pretty heavily into Ball Pythons, and of course everybody knows that leucistics are The super form of co-doms, or incomplete doms depending on who you talk to. If anybody could shed some light on this it would be most appreciated. Thanks, Josh.

Check out this guys pics. They are from 2003. He bred them to prove recessive time and again.

If your question is regarding the eastern hogs in the classifieds, I do not think they are proven as they were WC as juveniles.

Thanks for shedding some light on my question. I guess in all of my research I failed to find a picture of an actual leucistic. The eastern hogs were not what I was thinking about. Westerns were on my mind, and I was actually looking at breeder websites, not classified ads. My fault. Thanks again for your help, Josh.

The leucism in western hognose is also recessive. To the best of my knowledge they are not in private collections. A few zoo's have them though.

This pic was sent to me several years ago from the Colorado zoo when I inquired about the where abouts of the confiscated animals. They were very kind to answer my questions and update me on the condition of the animals.

The Eastern animal is not a true lucy. I actually got to see the remaining animal and examine her earlier this year. She resembles a ghost or whitesided bull snake in that she still has some pattern on her.
