Hornwort

Dewback Sep 25, 2003 10:18 PM

I know there is a thread below on plants, but I am specifically interested in whether hornwort/coontail (Ceratophyllum demersumis) is good for feeding to alligator snappers.

I read somewhere that it actually kills algae. Is this true? That's what gave me second thoughts about putting some in his tank. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Well, Ernst and Barbour say that hornwort has been found in the stomachs of cooters and sliders. My GUESS is that if its safe for cooters, its safe for snappers. I do know of several people who feed it to their red ears regulaly.
