Got a worry on my brain.

wcumagic Sep 25, 2003 10:22 PM

I just got these frogs three days ago, and I know a good bit about most other animals, I've just never kept frogs. I have a nice setup, I think. My worry is, I havent SEEN my frogs eat yet, and one is a little skinnier than he was. Now, they may take some time getting used to the setup, and then eat boldly, but I was kinda worried that the 1/4" crickets are too big for them. Crickets ended up being about twice the size of one of the frogs eyeballs, which with all the other animals I've kept isnt really too big, but I thought it might be with these guys. I've seen green tree frogs swallow things much bigger proportionally.

Do I need a new food, or are they just getting situated?

What kind of frogs are these, and do you not have any fruit fly cultures setup? Are these frogs adults or froglets? How big is the setup, because you might want to move each of them to their own critter keeper or "sweater box". Depending on the species, age, and size of the frogs, they might be able to eat pinhead crickets, but you definitely need some fly cultures.

I hope I spelled that right! Both of them are about an inch and a half. I dont know male from female though.

I agree with MJC, you definately need to get some fruit flies. If you can't get them right away go out in the woods and see if you can find termites. They love these and they will fatten your frogs up. As a last resort you could place a few (2-3) ants in the tank and see what they do. But I think the crix are just to big for them to eat. Remember the ants as a LAST RESORT.

This is a test to see if my picture upload works. If it works, more will follow. These are my new frogs.

This is the entire setup showing the humidifier and everything. Somebody tell me if you see I'm doing something wrong.

Looked at your posts, and I have to agree you need to get some FF's fast! I think Eds does overnight shipping. I bought crickets for my full grown leucs at the local reptile show, and I think they were 3/16th (smallest they had), and they still seemed a bit big. Also if you have a Petco locally they might have very small vials of FF's, might be enough until you can get some from a eds or someplace else.
