Safe cleanser for a reptile room?

pinelandsghost Oct 15, 2010 03:28 AM

This past year the french drains got wet in my basement and they run through my reptile room. Later on a jug of distilled water leaked onto a stack of newspaper that quickly became moldy. I cleaned that up and disposed of all the paper. Now a couple of weeks later I noticed theres a little bit of mold on the tank stand and room windows. I sprayed windex on a papertowel out side of the room then brought it inside to wipe the windows down. I didn't want to get the vapers from the cleanser into the rooms air for fear it would harm the snakes.
Well the mold came back. If it were another area I'd use a bleach & water solution to wipe down the walls and rinse the drains.
I don't think the vapors would do them any good and I'm pretty sure lysol wouldn't be reptile friendly either.
I really don't want to drag all the snakes out if I can help it while I clean the room.
Also I'm also worried about residual vapors after all is clean that I don't pickup on that may harm the snakes.
The mold can't be good for them but I don't want the cure to be worse. Any suggestions or comments about what you use that works and is safe I'd like to know about it.
Thanks, Mike.

PS-You know I've dealt with lung worms, fruit flys, mites, and now mold. Its of a lesser problem but damn,Whats next???
Any more of this and I'll be able to write a problem solving book for the reptile keeper.

I usually use bleach water and a little dish soap as a surfactant.

I almost gassed myself using bleach to kill mold in my attic once so even deluted I'm wary about using it around my snakes.
A friend told me that white vinegar and water will work.
Anyone else know about that one?
Mike.
