TOOWOOMBA CHRONICLE (Australia) 01 October 10 Swerving for snake costs $42,000 (Lacey Burley)
A couple's $42,000 caravan was destroyed after the driver swerved to miss a snake on the road and crashed near Clifton yesterday.
The Brisbane driver, 60, and his wife, 58, were travelling to the Australian Camp Oven Festival in Millmerran when they swerved around the 1.2metre snake on the Gatton-Clifton Road at 11.30am.
Clifton police officer-in-charge Sergeant Guy Smidt said the driver of the Holden Commodore lost control of the caravan he was towing and the caravan ran off the edge of the road.
The caravan flipped and caused the car to spin 180 degrees. The van then rolled back onto its wheels.
Sgt Smidt said the car did not roll during the crash.
The couple suffered from shock and were treated by paramedics. However, they did not require hospitalisation.
The caravan was towed from the scene and the couple abandoned their holiday and travelled back home to Brisbane.
Sgt Smidt said the driver was issued with a notice to appear in the Warwick Magistrates Court for careless driving.
The crash happened about six kilometres from Clifton.
