IL Press: Alligator owner charged

Oct 15, 2010 10:32 AM

SUN TIMES (Chicago, Illinois) 05 October 10 Buffalo Grove alligator owner charged (Ronnie Wachter)
The owner of 3-foot-long alligator found crawling around Buffalo Grove last month has been charged with owning a dangerous animal.
Bruce L. Richman -- the owner of the North American alligator named Fredrick -- was charged with the misdemeanor last week, police said.
Fredrick was found Sept. 21, roaming through the front and side yards of the 600 block of Pinehurst Lane.
During warm months, Richman kept the gator in a backyard that features a pond, waterfalls and brick-and-fence enclosures, police said. During the winter, Fredrick was kept in a large, heated aquarium in the garage, police said.
Richman had been unaware of Fredrick's adventure in the outside world until investigators contacted him, police said.

Since when is a misdemeanor so newsworthy? Slow news day, or what? Could it be because reptiles are the focus?
Pitiful waste of the publics' trust!
