ASHLEY AINSWORTH (Macclesfield, UK) 05 October 10 Frog Found in Wine Bottle - Woman Seeks Compensation after Becoming Ill
A woman who has been ill after finding a dead frog in a bottle of wine is seeking compensation.
Isolde Beesley bought a bottle of Moscatel de Valencia (a sweet Spanish white wine) from an Asda store for a family celebration. She opened the bottle on Boxing Day last year and had drunk some of the wine when she noticed an object in the bottom of the bottle. On closer inspection she discovered it to be a dead frog slightly bigger than the size of a finger nail.
Decanter magazine is reporting that Ms Beesley took the £3.50 bottle of wine to her local trading standards and environmental health office, and also made a complaint to Asda. The company responded by temporarily taking the wine off its shelves.
After an investigation, Asda stated that it found no problems with the bottling process or factory, and were at a ‘total loss’ to how this could happen. They did however, state they were taking the matter very seriously, and apologised to Ms Beesley for her bad experience.
After suffering from repeated stomach pains following ingesting the contaminated wine, Ms Beesley has decided to instruct a solicitor to make a claim for compensation. Her legal team are arguing that the wine was unfit for human consumption.
