Help my friend..lol

zippy00_99 Oct 16, 2010 10:21 AM

He has been bitten by the preverbal Ball Python bug. I have a whole room dedicated to my ball pythons, but he does not have that option. He wants to get his third and possibly (probably) his fourth ball python. So now he wants to look at housing them in a rack system.

My question is-Will the balls survive in a rack system with flexwatt obviously, but with the room at room temperature, and even though there is no way to keep the heat in the room, would an oil heater still be beneficial.

Any ideas? I told him to move..lol, but I am not sure if that is an option, so for the time being, what can he do.

As i'm only 15, I have a small room with a small Closet.

I keep all of my Ball Pythons, and other Snakes, in my closet.

We built a rack and installed the Flexwatt heat tape, which is set at 90 Degrees.

My closet has no heat source other than the Flexwatt. My house stays about 73, but with the heattape it warms the inside of the tub to about 80 and my Warm Side stays 90.

He doesn't have a closet that big either. Thanks though.

As long as the room your friend is housing his snakes isn't ridiculously cold, (ie below 60F) it shouldn't be a problem to heat cages warm enough. A cool end of about 70-75F I believe is fine for ball pythons, and the flex watt provides a hot spot for the snake to go to when they want warmer temps for digesting etc.

I keep my snakes in sterlite containers on shelves and I don't heat the room more than 73-75F (or at least that is the temperature the landlord sets the central heating...i would rather have it a bit cooler...)
