Clutch Size

gmerker Oct 18, 2010 09:57 PM

I had my largest clutch ever hatch out. The adults are a wild-caught male and an F1 female from Loma Alta proper...the female, approximately 30 inches in length, had 13 eggs all of which hatched.

What is the largest clutch some of you had? Just curious....gmerker

Nice clutch of hatchling graybands! It looks like you have quite a lot of variety in that group. I had a Nice Large Blairs Phase female Loma Alta lay 17 eggs and then drop a slug a few days later. I had 11 hatch out of that group. Some of the eggs that she laid were not fertile. This female is really solid and a pretty good sized grayband. This snake's sire is owned by Mike Russo and is approximately 50 inches long! Here is a picture of her and two of her babies that hatched from that large clutch. The picture makes her look smaller than she really is.

Here are better and newer pictures of the large female Loma Alta mentioned in the above post as well as the male that sired that large clutch. The first picture is of the male and the second one of the female.

Awesome variety in that clutch Gerald! I am incubating a clutch of 13 Hwy. 277 eggs myself right now but 4 have already gone bad. There is about 2 weeks left before they're due to hatch and I will be very happy if all 9 remaining hatch. The biggest clutch I can remember actually hatching was 10 out of 10 and that was from a pair of wc West Langtry.

One of my female river rds has laid 13 eggs for the past 2 years in a row. This year only 12 hatched but last year all 13 were good.

I was also lucky to go 13 for 13 here with a 4 yr old first timer. Dave

according to Forks, as published in Snakes of Texas by Tennant, Gulf Publishing, second edition, 1997, 18 good eggs is the record. There are reports of a clutch containing 22 eggs but considerably less than 18 hatched. ~~~~~~

I had a large Juno lay 18 eggs and 16 hatched. One of the babies had a kink at the tip of the tail.
