Please help all you genetics geniuses

AaronZav Oct 19, 2010 06:57 PM

Ok, I have followed tis forum for years but rarely post. The genetics thing is evading me right now. I have an Kahl albino female that I would eventually like to breed. The mother of this girl was a Hypo Jungle Het Albino and the father was a Arabesque Albino. What genetically could she be holding and what would be a good mate for her, I am looking to pick up something at The Pasadena show in a couple weeks. Please throw any options/opinions that you may have, like I said, my head is spinning from figuring genetics right now and I know that some of you are amazing at this stuff so I figured that I would solicit some help. Thanks in advance to all that wish to help.

Pictures would help but an albino is just an albino. It wouldn't have any hidden genes from its parents unless maybe it was sold as an albino but is really also a low expression jungle then you may have an 'albino jungle'. The hypo, jungle and arabesque gene is a dominant gene, it is visual. The albino gene is a recessive gene therefore it is only visual if it is Homozygous otherwise being just het for albino. Most likely your albino doesn't have any hidden genes but a picture would help and we can be able to tell you exactly what it is.

IMO I would breed it to a Jungle het Albino because if it is a low expression jungle albino, you could produce:

12.5% Normal het Albinos
25% Jungle het Albinos
12.5% Super Jungle het Albinos
12.5% Albinos
25% Albino Jungles
12.5% Albino Super Jungles

The super jungles are amazing looking. Check out some pictures on the web.

Thanks,
Mike

Aaron,

Mike is correct. She is just an albino. I do not believe she is a possible jungle. I would make sure to get at least a dh sunglow so you can make sunglows with her. Any additional genes would be a bonus. Maybe a hypo jungle het albino.

Ok, Thank you all for clearing this up. Matt, thanks for the awesome snake, she is beutiful, maybe just a "normal albino", but none the less she is awesome. She is doing well and eating like crazy. I think I am going to look for a hypo-jungle het albino, or a hypo motley he albino for her future mate. I am not looking at breeding on a large scale, so I want to get a good variety of high quality snakes out of what I do breed.

Your Albino came from Matt, than that is a high quality Albino !

You've got a good plan get a few high quality Boas and go from there !
