Roaming hognose

suzukiben Oct 21, 2010 07:16 PM

My hognose is active! which is great, I get to see him all the time, but am just worried that this is not normal.

He is somewhere in the vacinity of 9-13 weeks old and growing crazy fast. I have had him for about 4 weeks and have been feeding him 2 f/t pinkys a week. He seem content with his enviorment, latley he has been really active, probing his cage all the time. Should i be woried/ doing something? This is my first snake.

Sounds to me like he is hungry. A growing hognose is a little eating machine. I have some that hatched in August that are 40 grams and eating 2 fuzzies /week.

The only bad reason I can think of that a snake would be moving around too much would be if they were too hot. As long as the temperatures are fine, the snake is fine. They can be very active snakes and are always hungry. Your feeding schedule sounds good, and the snake might appreciate getting a slightly larger mouse in the near future!

I agree, if your temp gradient is correct, the hoggie is doing nothing out of the ordinary. You must remember, snakes must be on the move constantly in the wild, just to eat and survive, except for brumation. My males especially are very active and slither around their enclosures for hours on end, whether hungry or not.
