typherp Oct 27, 2010 01:02 AM

Here are some of my outdoor pens for my Cycluras. The total size of each pen is 25 X 10 X 7...including 5 X 10 X 6.5 heated indoor room.

Paradon Oct 27, 2010 01:42 AM

Those are really nice cages! Very roomy.... They probably love it. Thanks for the pictures!

typherp Oct 27, 2010 01:52 AM

Thanks...I really enjoy having them in my life.....they are special animals!

Paradon Oct 27, 2010 01:59 AM

Wait! Are you David Blair? [chuckle]

typherp Oct 27, 2010 02:19 AM

Nope....sorry to disappoint you...he is an expert with mountain of experience and knowledge and I am just a beginner trying to learn as much as I can. As everyone here know, once the "Cyclura Bug" bites you, it has tendency to take over and become significant and slightly addictive part of your life...LOL.

Paradon Oct 27, 2010 05:17 AM

What do you feed them? Having so many animals must be heavy on your wallet..... I hear zoological facilities supplement the diet with Mazuri commercial food to cut down on the food bill.

typherp Oct 27, 2010 11:59 PM

I think I am spending between $150 to $200 a week to feed all my Cycluras and Ctenosauras right now....bit less in the winter when they don't eat as much. I feed them 75% greens (dandelion, romaine lettuce, escarole, collard, turnip, mustard green, etc.); 5% fruits; 10% vegetables (squash, sweet potato, carrot, etc.) and 10% dry commercial diet ( Mazuri Tortoise and Marion Zoological Reptile Diet.) I supplement their diet with vitamin and calcium once a week. Some Ctenosauras also get super worms and crickets depending on the species, their age and season.

Paradon Oct 28, 2010 07:11 AM

You must have a pretty understanding wife to spend that much in a week. i only have two iguanas (a 4 year old green and juvy spiny) and I spent $200 a month. I found a cheaper place to buy and I only go to the expensive supermarket for things like parsnips, green beans, etc...because they're fresher.

Extreemosaurus Oct 28, 2010 02:45 PM

WOW u guys pay way too much for food.. i almost live in the arctic (sweden) and i only pay 50 dollars/40 euros per month on all the food for all my animals... (including superworms)

thats
8 cyclura
13 sailfin dragons
2 Aus WD
2 c, similis

tgreb Oct 28, 2010 04:55 PM

times the size of yours. LOL

typherp Oct 28, 2010 10:31 PM

LOL.......last time I did the inventory, I counted 291 Cycluras, Ctenosauras and Hydrosauras....It's changing weekly though.

Extreemosaurus Oct 29, 2010 02:13 AM

LOL WTF???? 300 cyclura??? u must be kidding :P

typherp Oct 29, 2010 07:18 AM

No....291 includes, spiny-tails and Sailfin dragons also......

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Oct 29, 2010 08:02 AM

That's a LOT of lizards Ty. You caught the bug bad. I have about 150 Cyclura including babies, 55 albino Iguanas with 15 being over 3' long, around a 175 het. for albino Iguanas, and 9 BLUE or AXANTHIC Green Iguanas here...You might say I'm OCD about Iguanas....

Extreemosaurus Oct 29, 2010 09:00 AM

WOW !!!! but i would prob have more than you guys if i could have them all in the backyard yearround damn arctic circle!!! im f-ing moving to spain as soon as i can LOL

TY what kind of sailfins you got? i got 4 indo giants(H ,amboinensis) and 8 philippine (h ,pustulatus) and one intergrade female...

Do you have a site??

typherp Oct 30, 2010 12:52 AM

Sorry about your weather....with "the global warming" predicted by some pundits, you might get your wish....LOL. I am back home in Chicago and my animal inventory sheet is in my farm computer in FL, so I can't give you an exact number....but I think I have 36 Philippines, around 40 amboinesis, 32 inter-grades and 14 weberis.I am always looking for rare and unusual sailfins from different locals. I am currently building some winter cages in one of the heated greenhouse. The cages, hopefully, will be completed by the end of next week as we are expecting some nights in the low 50s.

Extreemosaurus Oct 30, 2010 03:31 AM

LOL keeping my fingers crossed LOL then lizards will take over the world =D LOL

WOW thats a very nice collection! so do you breed them on the farm? or just a collector? i think i have two locals on my philippines.. most look like Scotts animals but one male and female have large circles of scales from neck to tale.. i can send you some pics if you give me your e mail ...

they are still only yearlings.. people dont value sailfins that high in europe.. mostly because of bad reputation from the 80-90´s but they are very impressive calm and easy to care for..

typherp Oct 30, 2010 11:51 AM

I know...Scott and I both agree that Hydrosauras are much under-appreciated worldwide. Majority of my sailfins will start producing in year 2012 to 2013 as most of them are 1-2 year old. they are currently in 5 X 3 X 5 outdoor cages but will be moved into 8 X 4 X 7 cages in a heated greenhouse soon for the winter. I plan on building 40-10 X 5 x 7 permanent outdoor pens that can be properly insulated and heated in the winter, next to a large pond so that they can also be properly hydrated with constant running water. You can send me photos to typherp@aol.com. and I will do the same as this is Cyclura and Ctnosaura forum...so its not the right forum to talk at length about them.

Extreemosaurus Oct 30, 2010 12:51 PM

im going to sell most of my hatchlings to the USA .. people in europe just dont know what sailfins are... i sent you a mail =)

typherp Oct 30, 2010 02:05 PM

I know...I found it in my spam file and lost it....aaaaugh! Please send it to me again.

Extreemosaurus Oct 30, 2010 03:21 PM

ok no problem.. sending it now

tgreb Oct 31, 2010 06:20 PM

to post the pics etc here. I would love to see them as I think many others would here. I don't keep anything but chucks and a hybrid but always love to see enclosures and other lizards.

typherp Oct 30, 2010 01:00 AM

Wow Tom....last time Jon and I visited you, I thought you had less than 20 Cycluras....you must bought big time this year...or you were hiding all your good one and didn't show them to me....LOL! You didn't just catch a bug but yours is a serious disease....let me know if you find a cure....LOL.

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Nov 01, 2010 06:08 PM

I bought another 15-18 adults just from what was left from Eric when he sold his property.Ty you bought a pair of Cuban's in Aug that were part of that group and I've been trying to get more cornuta as I never can produce enough. I'm always looking for pair's or single female cornuta's as I'm going to hopefully eventually have over 75 just adult cornuta. Most of the Cyclura are small ones still but this year I'm starting to keep back some babies again which is why I haven't posted any babies yet. I lost Wilma and I'm keeping a lot of her clutch here as many have multiple horns and a few have a LOT of them...Boy do I have LOTS of albino, het, and poss het albino Green Iguana's though. Those eat us out of house and home as they eat far more than Cyclura do and I have hundreds of them [mostly the hets but over 35 albino's as well]...thanks

typherp Nov 01, 2010 08:01 PM

Unless your thinking about keeping them all, you should run a special on your albinos and hets.

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Nov 02, 2010 06:06 AM

God no, I'm keeping them on purpose. I only have 5 albino's left surplus from this year. Last year took until March to sell ALL THE ALBINO'S but by Christmas I'll be sold out. I'm trying to produce BIG numbers of albino's and sell at the next level of the pyramid [customer base]. It will be about 2012 before I reach my goal. You don't understand the method to my madness....LOL

By the way.... Your Cyclura is beautiful! What kind is he?

typherp Oct 27, 2010 10:30 AM

He is C. Lewisi cross...he is shedding and also has been digging all day.

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Oct 27, 2010 08:52 AM

Here are some pics of some of my breeding enclosures both large and small. The bib ones are 12' x 15' x 6'x and the small are 6' x 6' x 6'...thanks

Ty great job on your habitats! The bug has bitten you hard. Tom your habitats are great also. Mine are similar but in a different state.

typherp Oct 28, 2010 10:14 PM

Thanks Kelly......your friendship, advise and encouragement has been invaluable to me.

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Oct 29, 2010 08:13 AM

Thanks Kelly, love to see pics of yours sometimes as I always like to see what others have done......One of the more impressive things I've seen was a friend in Wyoming who had buildings for winter and summer OUTSIDE. Each breeding pair or trio had their OWN building. He has spent an exraordinary amount of money because he loves his Cyclura so much. I saw pics of the buildings with snow around them but the insides were great Cyclura habitats. It seems that Cyclura people spend a great deal more money and time than other herp collecters on their enclosures and I'm glad to see it.....thanks

Here are two pictures of mine. They are made of treated wood and 1/2 inch galvanized hardware cloth. A couple of them are just shy of 15 yrs old. They are six feet tall and they have worked well for me. I do agree it is amazing the lenghts people will go to take care of their animals.

Manny Oct 29, 2010 10:14 AM

What are these? Are these WC pectinatus from FL? BTW, I just received four 2009 lewisi crosses you produced from Linda Switzer....I didn't really get to look at them closely because I had to catch a flight home..but they look nice. Can't wait to get back to the farm on Monday to look at them better. I always keep my lewisi babies by themselves as I found them to be nippy to each other but Linda kept them all together and they didn't have a scratch on them.

Extreemosaurus Oct 30, 2010 03:15 AM

my "pure" lewisi yearling is by far more aggresive and dominant than my nubila yearlings.. she is also much much more "social" and headbobing non stop when she see me.. i didnt think it would be any difference in behavior when it comes to nubila and lewisi.. but its easy to see...
maybe its just my specimens??? that would be interesting to hear from others what they have experianced ???

typherp Oct 30, 2010 11:38 AM

Although I do not have any pure lewisi, my lewisi crosses are much more antisocial than nubila or cornuta. I am keeping yearling lewisi individually where as I can keep my cornuta yearlings together without any nipping or fighting.

Paradon Oct 30, 2010 11:41 AM

I heard cornuta is a little more temperamental than other Cyclura....

typherp Oct 30, 2010 11:54 AM

temperamental to people, each other or both?

Paradon Oct 30, 2010 12:10 PM

To people....

typherp Oct 30, 2010 12:21 PM

My experiences has been different. Most of my adult cornuta and nubila are mostly calm and some actually enjoy being petted, where as my lewisi crosses are less trusting and do not like to be touched. I only have limited experience with them as I only had most of them for year or less...but I have spent considerable time with them as I REALLY enjoy them.

Extreemosaurus Oct 30, 2010 01:14 PM

i agree.. cornutas arent aggresive.. they sometimes try fake attacs to scare you when they are wild but a bite is rare.. nubilas can be less predictable and can attac with no warning when they still are wild.. lewisi are aggresive to eachother and to you also.. but they get tamed and calm down much faster than cornutas, but nubilas calm down and get tame the fastest i think

jf Oct 30, 2010 02:49 PM

I dont think you can make such definitive statements. In captivity they can all be friendly, or not. I think its the individual lizard and the husbandry it receives that determines what you get. I can give you a handful of stories of very aggressive cornutas.

jf

Extreemosaurus Oct 30, 2010 03:29 PM

i agree.. but these are just general tendencies i have seen in my five rhinos , two nubilas and one lewisi.. i stated in an earlier post that its maybe just my specimens who act this way.

typherp Oct 30, 2010 03:33 PM

Yup...just like people, they all have different personalities....but seems like each species do have general tendencies.

Extreemosaurus Oct 30, 2010 04:20 PM

i got your mails =) very nice! sent you a new one.. check so it doesnt end up in the spamfiles again LOL

Manny Nov 01, 2010 08:21 AM

Hello Ty,
Yes those are wild caught Pectinatas. Those baby hybrids you got from Linda are probably the best Lewisi hybrids arround. I've been told that they are developing into some killer animals.

typherp Nov 01, 2010 09:28 AM

Cool....Thanks Manny! I think I have enough diverse bloodlines for a nice breeding colony of lewisi crosses now. I can't wait for these babies, yearlings and two year old to grow up as some are coloring up nicely.
