Cooling Time For Breeding

kevinvs Oct 24, 2010 07:55 PM

This is my first year of breeding ball pythons, and I am wondering how long everyone usually cools for before introducing mates? I have read several different time measures, so I would like to hear it first hand from people that have had success.
Thanks for any suggestions!

this is only my second season breeding, but this works for my animals and i.

My normal snakeroom temp is between 80-83. When i decide to start my season i will drop the room temp to the mid 70's. Now i do this with the OUTside temps. I crack a window and allow the cooler outside temps to lower the snakeroom temp. I do this for about 3-4 weeks. Then i allow the room temp to raise back up to the upper 70,s by slowly closing the window. And at this time i introduce the males.

I also crack the window when it rains here and turn up the room heater as well. They like the humidity during breeding. My boa pairs do as well.

This method works for me and hasnt failed me yet.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

This will be my first year as well and I was just going to post this same subject and figured I wasn't alone.

I was curious also about the amount of time to lower temps but I also want to know if it is necessary. Do all breeders out there lower the temps? I am surprised there aren't more reply posts already. Usually everyone is extremely helpful. Help us out guys. I know for me, I would greatly appreciate any help I can get.
