What will become of caramels, axanthic..

tevie84 Oct 25, 2010 03:32 AM

What will become of all lines of caramels, axanthics, albinos, g-stripes, and mystics? Certainly all these morphs are beautiful no matter what line and they make awesome combos and projects but each of these morphs that I have listed have counterparts that pick up where they leave of as far as birth defects, maintaining color or popularity. As far as caramels, as beautiful as they are, are born with kinks and for that reason I believe their value is decreasing gradually especially with its counterpart in the market now which is the ultramel. With the different lines of axanthic and its reputation as "browning out", a person or the market could switch to its counterpart which grows into black and grey, which many hobbyist seek, the desert ghost. The original T- albino is also a hobbyist's favorite and will always be in many collectors collections but the lavender albino absolutely glows as an adult when compared to a "regular" albino. Genetic stripes in the market recently, have also seemed to plummet as far as its value. It technically does not have a counterpart but the super stripe certainly comes to mind when thinking of a mind blowing striped ball. An investment in a specter goes a long way I suppose. When it comes to mystics and phantoms, they are almost identical to the beginner hobbyist's eye but when it comes to their value as a base morph and combo's, the difference is obvious not to mention their homozygous form. Another case for this scenario could be made with toffees and bananas but that debate or comparison could not be made by the common hobbyist since their value reflects it's buyers' status as a collector. Of course it's all up to personal preference but choosing one over another could mean a big difference from a investment stand point $$$. They are all beautiful balls and I wouldn't mind having them all of course but patience and a well thought out investment plan is key in this hobby and business.

Very interesting post Steven. I think you are observing some subtle trends in the market. You touched on the mystic and phantom thing. Can you expand on that? How do the morphs of those two differ?

Thanks,
Dan

When I was discussing the two similar morphs, phantom and mystic, I was referring to their visual appearance as a base morph. Kevin at NERD, who works exclusively with phantoms, stated that phantoms are blacker and mystics are browner. I was also comparing the value and investment $$$ differences between them. I do not want to get into specifics since this post will most likely get deleted but to the untrained eye they are very similar and when crossed to a mojave they have the same effect. One being a mystic potion and the other being a purple passion/phantom potion. Their homozygous forms are also similar to the untrained eye where both are darker than the potion combo. I believe both are exquisite base morphs alone and have the potential to become huge when adding another morph to their super form, such as RDR's super phantom spider.

Maybe you meant that the Banana and the Coral Glow were basically the same morph? Because the Toffee ball is, with out a doubt, a completely different morph all together. Bananas and Toffees look nothing alike, even to the novice I am sure.

Have you seen a toffee when its a juvenile? It resembles a banana or coral glow. And as far as bananas and coral glows they are like cinnamons and black pastels in comparison as far as they have the same effect when crossed to other morphs. Also, my whole discussion was referring to value. Bananas and coral glows are valued the same but not toffees from what I have seen.

They may look similar as juveniles, but do they look the same as adults? I was under the impression that they do not (haven't seen the Toffee in person, so I'm basing that on pics). If they look different as adults, then idont think you can compare them like that.

Im still trying to figure out the point of this post??

tevie84 Oct 25, 2010 05:09 PM

As the subjects line reads, what will become of the morphs I have listed as other similar morphs have a higher value and are becoming what people are turning to when they are seeking that desired combo or project. Caramels differ in value in the thousands when compared to ultramels is an example of how they look a like but are not the same genetically.

I don't really see the Caramel as just a cheaper form of Ultramel...they look like different things to me. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have some Ultramels, but I don't really see them replacing my Caramels. They are two different morphs,IMO. The Ultramel is pricier because there are fewer Ultramels available, not because they are so much better than Caramels. Just figured I'd throw in my two cents...

It's all preference like I have said earlier. I also agree that caramels are awesome but I am terrified to get into a project with caramels knowing that they might come out kinked. I think the caramel glow holds its own against any combo out there but I wonder what the ultraglow will look like...

JYohe Oct 25, 2010 05:29 PM

all morphs drop in price....
for just the caramels...I think they will do just fine...
I actually just got into them a little...and as for kinks...that makes them less available and more costly in the long run...kinked ones don't sell well....heck...even as of yesterday...the big boy male caramel het ghost was copulating a nice big fat virgin pastel ghost...a beautiful sight ....cannot wait till her sister sheds and he csn meet her also....then...there is the cousin...the spider het ghost....aaaaaaa...she is cute too.....babies should do very well....

you get it....prices drop....but...not everyone has money...so the more you make the cheaper and the cheaper the more that can afford them.....they'll sell....

if not....BBQ......???...still haven't yet....closer....!

I can tell you that the future of G. Stripe is bright. Nothing compare to it.

Superstripes are nice, but different. Just like a Highway isn't a superstripe.

With the G. Stripe, you have the possibility of creating patternless morph too. (Even if a patternless morph exist, it's still pretty rare so far).

For the axanthic, I don't know. Never been a fan of them but looks like they have always been there and will probably bee. Unless someone find a black/white morph that stays black/white. But the Lightning Pied stays quite black/white.

The lavender and albinos will stay. It will take quite a time before the lavender is produced in large number (only starting to) that anyone can buy them. When this happens, the price of both will probably be quite the same and both will stay in the market I think cause the albinos will have been there for soo long.

I think, what make a morph stay will be it's combos and not the base morph. It's already too late once there is a lot of combos.

The caramel and ultramel are quite different. I am staying away of them so far cause of the "kinks", just like I am staying away of spider.

Do you think the Woma will go away in favor of the Woma HG ?
I think it's the closest think of what you are telling.

love this world, don't hate it.

I agree with Watever. The source of the price drop is not things such as kinks. Really that should make the flawless ones worth more. Its the simple fact that there are so many other morphs being produced from most of the ones you mentioned that why would people pay high dollar when the next level has already come? If your goal is something like a super pastel g stripe, or pastel caramel glows, if you buy the the plain morph you have a road ahead of you while others are already on thier way to making them, or have already produced them.
Also, the more thats bred the more there are going to be of the regular traits. People want them to sell so they wont be able to sell something they could sell for a couple of grand three years ago when everyone ran to them and began producing them as well. Supply and demand, its just buisness.
