Not knowing the history...

foxturtle Oct 25, 2010 11:22 AM

Does not make them licorice black rat snake crosses. Whitesided Glades originated from a snake caught around LaBelle, FL, which is a locality that produces Glades rats. They are legit Glades Rat Snakes, as much as anything else is anyway. The whitesided trait washes out a lot of the color, makes them look more like Yellows. The hets look just like every other Everglades Rat Snake.

Sorry about that, was responding to people that thought this morph was a result of crossing.

That is interesting to know Nick, thanks for the info about those. I always hate to assume to much, but now days it is just ridiculous what people cross to make their own "new morph"..LOL!

I mean, we see examples of this type of thing on a steady daily basis day in and day out. Some of the mixed crap I see offered in the classifieds and people's site's as the "real McCoy" is just mind-blowing sometimes.

It is great to know they at least the white-sided glades did start as the genuine article from a certain Florida locale, but I am also betting some shmuck will do his own "thing" with them very soon, as they do with almost everything else, and then only some will then be genuine, it is just the way things are now unfortunately now.

anyway, thanks again Nick!

I will admit I error on the side of skeptic unless I can see something like a chain of command or some other proof that an animal is what it is being sold as. one example I can provide was a project for sale just a few weeks ago for a Bairdi X White side Black Rat project. Someone will buy that project and produce "White Side Bairdi" he may sell then as crosses but what about someone five or eight years down the line. That person may decide to sell them as legit white sided Bairdi as he does not know or was not told they are crossed with black rats. Then what if someone else is herping in the field one day and stumbles accross the real deal local specifc white sided bairdi. How many people do you think will take him for his word. I admit my first assumption will be he is trying to pass of a black rat cross as the real deal when in reality he is not.

My gripe LOL
