Hi, I just picked up 1.2 spiny mice in hopes that my bp's who feed on soft furs and mice will like these because my soft fur breeder no longer keeps them and mice are too small. Anyone have a similar situation or any insight?
Thanks
Bob

I used to work with a guy who fed them to problem feeding balls with good success.
I used to breed spiny mice until the neighbors cat got in my garage and killed them all. They are neat little critters.
Also, I have a couple friends here in Oklahoma that breed ASFs and if you need a starter colony, let me know. They are really easy to breed too.
I have always wanted a small colony of Spiny mice. Do you know of anyone near Lincoln, Nebraska who keeps them?
What species did you acquire? Egyptian? (The Latin name would be most helpful)

The term spiny mouse refers to any species of rodent within the genus Acomys. Similar in appearance to mice of the genus Mus, spiny mice are small mammals with bare, scaled tails. However, their coats are endowed with unusually stiff guard hairs that function similarly to the spines of a hedgehog; this trait is the source of the common name, spiny mouse.

Right, that is why I was asking what species the OP had. Acomys cahirinus? Acomys russatus? Acomys nesiotes? WHICH species of spiny mouse do they have? There are several in the US pet trade.
