Anery bearded dragon?

dragomlover Oct 25, 2010 11:54 PM

I have been in the business for over 6 years now. And ive seen my fair share of baby dragons but this little girl looks like the real deal! She was produced by Atlanta Bearded Dragons and they are calling her a "piano phase". And has another sibling that looks similar but with more brown. Her parents are Hypo x trans so she is a DH.
I am looking forward to getting her to adult size and working with her. Also to see how her colors change with age and mood. Any opinions would be great! Or if anybody else knows of a breeder with a proven line of anery dragons chime in!
Thanks

Looks very interesting...like you said, time will tell. I have seen some , very rarely, that were really dark. I saw an ad once with a dragon for sale and it was posed next to a few other dragons. One of those other ones was completely dark like your little one, it looked about 12-13", and everyone replying to the ad asked about IT, not the one actually for sale. I always wondered what happened to it, the owner said " not for sale" and it was truly unique. I have a few dark babies myself, I think they're interesting.

It looks more like the morph "melanism" increased dark pigment.

Here are some pics of what I think is an anery (removal of red pigment).

Compair with the anery cornsnakes.

Josh may have some pics to share as well, since this dragon came from him.

I'm predicting the dark dragon will go red as an adult

What would be really neat is if someone can produce a solid green dragon! Color like that of v. prasinus...that would be something!

As there really is only one phase of bearded dragon that has yellows/reds naturally...most normal phase dragons lack or have very reduced amounts of red pigment to begin with...Inland bearded dragons that come from the 'red sands' areas of their range naturally developed more color to better blend into to their surroundings...However, other inland dragons stayed with a mix of greys and browns.

Though this dragon is interesting, I really don't think bearded dragons have an 'anery' morph. Little to no red pigment would be just a normal wild type dragon which doesn't come from the red sands area of their range.

Well her mother is a hypo leu. from RiverCityReptiles and the father is a citrus colored trans from DH Dragons, no reds in the back ground that I know of(but granddad on mom's side was pastel orange) and the clutch (after talking with the breeders) has a few others like her in it but not many about 25% or so have the black and white coloring. Some being more black then white. The rest of the siblings are a pastel orange phase that look nothing like the black and whites siblings. Also when in good moods the black and white babies tend to turn a light gray and white but aside from the ears there isn't any real orange or red I can see. Maybe you are right Steven and she could be a very high melanistic pigmented dragon. I just thought it was odd that she came from a near white mother and a nice citrus trans father and turned out with colors like that. I have produced many DH babies over the years and from pretty much the same backgrounds (since most of us started with dachiu and sandfire or phantomdragons stock originally) but I never produced babies like these! Thanks for everybodies feedback and I will post more pictures of her as she grows!
