Ok,,you all know I am a kingsnake and snake guy,,but am thinking of getting a lizard. Just wanted to see who of my fellow kingsnake keepers have any and their thoughts? I was thinking a Tegu.
Kingsnakes will always be my fave,,,I mean it is not like I am buying a super-flame-pinstripe-granite-ghost-piebald ball,,,lol

Thanks

I've been tempted to breed Green Basilisks again! There like small Dinosaurs complete with attitude! I've often thought about tegus but never made the jump.

Nothing wrong with variety.

Tegus are COOL ive had the Blue Tegus and were calm doscile, though i have seen an Argentine snap like a bear trap on a stick,And the stick Failed, but i believe it was a wc from here in Fl.
The Argentine is a Great animal closely related to the blues if cb and hand raised from juvi.
And the Southern range animals Brumate just fine which i find a plus. unlike the more flighty Columbian tegu Just my opinion.C Reds are cool too

I see the tortoise prefers the "long cut" that better mimics his natural choice of grassy vegetation.....

I dont care who Y'are THATS FUNNY,Doug were you at Orlando show last weekend? C

DMong Oct 26, 2010 05:44 PM

Well, I would have probably gone and set up a table with my buddy that went there this weekend, but there is a girl coming over in a couple more days to pickup a HUGE number of snakes she gave me a good deposit on last month, so I probably wouldn't have had enough snakes to make the show worth worth the while to sell just a few here and there. So I will just see what I have left after she takes home what she already bought, and what new stuff I have that she wants to buy, and advertise the rest of them.

It's the same girl I told you about when we talked there that bought something like 17 snakes from my table last year at Orlando..LOL!.......boy, that was great!

Tegu's are awesome. I got a chance to handle a real tame adult recently and he was impressive. Wouldn't want to take a bite, tame as he was I have to admit I was a little intimidated LOL.
Someday I'll get a Tegu or Monitor. BTW we have a bearded dragon, and those lizards get beyond tame!

Bigtattoo Oct 26, 2010 04:40 PM

If you want intimidating try handling a 5' Asian water monitor, truly awesome. I've had bites from several monitors when I had my pet shop. The worst was a 2' Savannah on my thumb. I learned to keep peroxide and a syringe handy. It's harmless to them but they let go real quick.

Currently the wife has beardies, leopard gex and green iggies. I have a trio of Western Plated lizards.

They're not snakes but lizards are cool.
