Python Politics still alive and well

EricWI Oct 26, 2010 11:44 AM

As predicted, Dorcas and others are still seemingly confident that Burmese pythons will disperse, survive, and reproduce further north in the United States. It is even more evident now that this continued push is inspired by obtaining further grant money. Read the following statements:

"Still, said study leader Michael Dorcas of Davidson College in North Carolina, "there certainly is a possibility that pythons could survive in South Carolina and possibly even farther north."

"For another, some studies indicate that the temperatures a snake experiences during its first year determine how it regulates its body temperature for the rest of its life. Snakes born in the area might fare better than snakes transplanted in as adults."

For Burmese Pythons, Florida May Be Just the Start

into a totally opposite conclusion, then what is the point of bothering to conduct research? Just publish the conclusion you want and be done with it - much cheaper that way!

Sickening and disgusting, but unfortunately, not surprising.

Ridiculous! Temperature is but one of many factors that contribute to survival. Furthermore, if these statements are true, then how is it that Burmese Pythons have not continued to expand their native range?

Web,

Sadly, this isn't about science, logic or reason. It's about pushing an agenda. At some point we need to take this to the courts, since what these scientist are doing is unethical, and since at least some of their funding comes from our tax money... For what it's worth, I emailed a bunch of the Fox contacts explaining that they are perpetuating junk science, and are certainly not being "Fair and balanced" on this particular issue. It's a long shot, but maybe if enough of us e-mail them, they will allow someone to rebut this python propaganda. Here's the webpage of e-mail contacts:

Also, their phone number is:

Thanks,

The man is just peddling his stock-in-trade...job security...got to make a living somehow...researchers study things and write papers for a living.
He's going to milk that Cash Cow as long as it will give a drop of milk!
You can't blame a guy for tying to make a living doing the only thing he knows, can you? lol

I can when my tax dollars are paying for it. This is why we need to throw as many of his bosses as we can out of office next tuesday.
Sad thing about it is I am pretty sure we are way beyond the ballot box working and quickly heading towards the bullet box method of changing the regime.
I am really glad I don't live in the city.

Another longshot, but if you like John Stossel, and you use Facebook, consider leaving a comment on his page. He's doing a story on the media and science:

Why did the majority of the Burmese here die during the freeze last year. They were all born here and spent their first year here and still froze to death. Dorcas is a DORK without a lick of sense. Also he's so imcompetant he likely can only hope for a job with the government. Believing that Pythons can live in South Carolina or even Central FL is like Don Quixote fighting windmills. He should be embarrassed....I have NOT seen a single Burmese post freeze except for the single snake we caught one week after the freeze....

I live in Md. How come tropical birds haven't spread to my state. Why doesn't Md. have cottonmouths? Why aren't boas found in Ca.? If warm blooded birds can't survive this far north why can Burms?

Dorcas never heard of an animal's range??
