Cool. Will those develop black heads and neck? I really like that look on coachwhips. Are they eating rodents?

Bigtattoo Oct 26, 2010 05:56 PM

Yes their heads and necks will get darker as they grow. Feeding on F/T mice. They have been since hatching according to Joe B. They take really hot temps 100*F hot spot and deep bedding so they can burrow and feel secure. Truly intelligent looking snakes and they watch you, closely.

Yeah they watch you so they can bite the crap out of you! I had a wc that was over 6 feet! Meaner than a junk yard dog, lol. I had to let it go cause it was gonna tear up it's face on the cage glass. I have been able to tame down some wc babies though, but I didn't keep them long so I don't know how well they tame down in the long haul? They are cool looking for sure.

Well I'm in for the long haul with these guys. I've been fortunate in hooking up with Joe Bernardo, he's been keeping ECWs for nearly 30 years and has developed good husbandry for keeping these guys happy and healthy. I love snakes with attitude. LOL

I found one of these in my front yard the other day. About 2 feet long. Surprisingly not aggressive.

Yes, not all will try to kill you every time. I messed around with a wild caught pair back in the early '90s that were aggressive to hold (very wild and fast, like they normally are) but neither ever made an attempt to bite. Of course, they might have been in the midst of a serious romance because six weeks after I got them the female laid a dozen eggs!

DMong Oct 27, 2010 06:13 PM

"they might have been in the midst of a serious romance because six weeks after I got them the female laid a dozen eggs"

So those two had smiles on their faces instead of the typical "sneery" look, correct?..LOL!
