amazondoc Oct 27, 2010 12:26 AM

Hey guys --

How many females can a male be expected to breed in one season? Two, three?

We got one litter on 4-7, 10 babies, one slugged out and one no take. So one out of three, first time breeding though. Dave what do you say?

Sorry 7-4 not 4-7.

I am not speaking from first hand experience but I have heard that three is about the max one would want to try. I have also heard that having multiple males can help increase your chances of getting your male in breeding mode (if that makes sense).

LAstly, I have even heard Dave say that he has produced a viable litter before by only introducing the male and female for 1 night. In this scenario I would think one could probably get the very most out of their male. I think the key here is being able to read your females signs and know when she is really ready for the male.

Hope this helps!

Actually it was Mike Lockwood that did that but with my female - one night of love = 17 babies!

I typically limit it to two females per male. I've done as many as four (90 babies from that male that year) but the following year the male produced nothing.

Probably more short term stressing over how he could put 90 hoppers on the table every week! His male prostitute job was barely providing room and board for him alone as it was.
