PERU LONG TAIL BOAS - Big Fanatic.......

lrdj Oct 27, 2010 07:24 AM

The darker one look almost the same as the smaller one as a neonate. I just wanted to show the differences and the ontogenic development at such a young age. Some specimens can't take a bit longer.

Can wait to see what these two will produce. Again, major thanks to JB for been able to capture this cool picture

Thanks for looking!

Orlando,
That is awesome. I've always wanted one of those - I have been too chicken to try one. Are Peruvian long-tails more sensitive to captive conditions compared to "generic" Colombians?

My generic Colombian boa has withstood every husbandry mistake and power outage I could muster and is still healthy and robust, lol. Fortunately I've learned a few things along the way.

Mark,

They differ from both subspecies (eg., imperator and constrictor) in terms of pattern, size, behavior, and natural habitat (Price and Russo, 1989). Neat boas to work with. Sometime neonates can be finiky eaters but that's part of game. One of my favorites.

Take care!

Beauty!

My favorite long tails have that contrast, like the older of the two especially. Clean with excellent contrast. I like it!

Aren't they a mountainous variety, that is more adaptable to cooler temps? One would think that would make them particularly hardy.

Jason,

Good point.... I have never dealt with W.C specimens but with an ecosystem (Mountainous coastal tropical wet forest in Peru) and climate at high elevation you would think that is the case.

Here is more showing the lalterals......

Take care!
