Heating vision cages

StevenOrndorff Oct 27, 2010 03:58 PM

I have been using homemade cages with RHPs but just recently got 2 vision cages. How do you guys typically heat them? If I use a lamp on the rectangular screen at top they can't be stacked but I don't want to drill holes in them to attach RHPs

For colubrids I use Flexwatt or whatever underfloor heat.

For boids in the past I used lots of Flexwatt. Now I use RHPs in the cages. Either works, I just like that with the RHP I don't have to fool around with adhering multiple pieces of Flexwatt to the cage bottom or be concerned with stacking issues.

I only stack two cages high for a few reasons. Between the cages I use 1 inch thick foam blocks wrapped in friction tape. Works pretty well - the top cage does not slide around too easily, and the blocks provide some shock absorption. Also provides clearance for screw heads, etc. Works well for a 2-cage stack, not sure for more than that.

I have the bottom cage on a dolly. Wheels rule.

I found it at HD. It fuses to itself when wrapped and has a surface that has high friction. I found that when I use it on the foam spacer blocks, the top cage doesn't slide around when I am cleaning it.

Silicon tape probably works too, maybe even Gorilla tape. Anything that lessens the chance of the foam blocks from sliding around if the cage is bumped or serviced.

Thanks, sounded like F4 tape but I wasn't sure.
