stoked on Blackthroats

robyn@ProExotics Oct 27, 2010 04:29 PM

It has been a few years since we've had baby Ionides/Blackthroats.

They run neck and neck with Ackies as my overall favorite monitor. Great personality, fun to work with, really a cool lizard.

I did some pics yesterday, three of my faves...

That's awesome! If they didn't get so dang big, I'd think about getting some myself.

Nice pics, too.

Speaking of ackies, will there be any available in the future?

Thanks

Sorry not to take away from this beautiful BT

We were hatching strongly for a bit, but now back to egg hatching issues. Frustrating.

My friend just bought one a couple weeks ago.... looks exactly like yours. They pretty cool! That's one of my favorite species--my third choice for a monitor. I like the Ackies and the rough neck the best.

Pretty lizards, Robyn. Are you saying you captive hatched Blackthroat eggs and these are true USA CBB's, or are they well-started imports?

Nate83 Oct 28, 2010 11:15 PM

Yep if only they stayed in the 2-3 ft range...

wrc1228 Nov 01, 2010 03:28 PM

These aren't U.S. CBB. Instead, a nice selection of farm hatched imports from Africa.

@Robyn, I wouldn't be so quick to label these guys as the "2nd best" captive monitor. Seeing as how they are imported from Africa and can grow to giant lengths of 7 ft and 50 lbs with somewhat feisty personalities...

wouldn't go that far just to make a buck or two for your business.

Cheers!

This was taken from the ad: "..but they are far and away the best lizard choice in the giant/large class. Great personality, fun to keep, and easy to work with."

Businesses have to make money to survive; this I understand. Honesty is important though... slipping things in like 'easy to work with' is pushing the envelope and feeding into the impulse purchasing keeper perspective.

Fun to keep and 'far and away the best giant lizard' is completely subjective of course.

No offense, but I'm sure ProExotics can sell these babies without the impulse targeting.

These are farmed babies. We haven't offered them for a few years now, super excited to have them back available.
