Kinda new to these snakes... be gentle

IdoThatforme Oct 29, 2010 11:32 AM

Hello everyone, I keep just about everything else but I am kind of new to hognose snakes, but I have kept several in the past. I babysat a western hog for a friend for almost a year and I kept a Malagasy Giant for a few years. I have also Kept wildcaught Easterns for several weeks at a time, feeding them toads. Now i have acquired a cbb Eastern from a friend, and it eats f/t pinks like there is no tomorrow. It hatched out on sept 15. My question is how often should i feed her? some people say one pink a week, some say more often. I fed her one pink a week the first few weeks, but now i upped it to two pinks at a time (growing huge.. fast). She has almost doubled in size already and i want to know if thats normal or not.
Thanks
Frank

Hi Frank

Two pinkies a week certainly are not excessive feeding. I would keep feeding as you are. Young hognose can make phenomenal growth if fed allot. But there is no reason to push the growth. It sounds like you are handling the youngster just fine.
