Memorials, Earns and Ashes in West Texas

alternarush Oct 29, 2010 11:59 PM

It is important to me, and I'm sure it is important to many of you, that I get the story straight on the Rock Cut Memorials.

Would anyone mind giving me the REAL story. Who is out there. Why? I have heard some conflicting stories.

Thanks in advance,

I have not forgotten about you and have actually been going thru 10 years of footage.

Thanks Coach. I'm really excited about the scene we discussed. (even if it makes me look like a terrible alterna hunter.

I was hoping for more (any) response on here. Does no one know the story of the memorials out by comstock?

Weren't you going to send me a video regarding George, Bob?

I could easily integrate it. It is an important and powerful subject that should be discussed.

The marker at 3.6 miles west of Langtry on the north side of the road that states "ECT 94" is the site that my father's ashes were placed. His name was Eugene Carl Timaeus. He passed away on September 14, 1994. He spent almost 20 years with me snaking the Langtry area. He contributed immensely to my upbringing and supported my reptile interests through my childhood. As an adult I took every opportunity to bring him into the reptile arena with me. Because of him, I along with my son are probably the people we are today. We were part of the "old" group collecting the Langtry area starting in 1973. My son, Eric Jr, caught his first alterna on the Langtry dirt road in the headlights of our jeep when he was 3 years old in 1977.

He is missed. I NEVER forget to drive to the top of the cut every trip I make to Langtry to visit with him. I have told my son that when my time comes, I would like to be there with him.

Thank you Eric. That was a very touching explanation. We must all remember when we are walking the cuts in West Texas that we are walking on hallowed ground. It's amazing how a place can have such a powerful effect on a person.

I think the Langtry area is the prettiest part of west TX. It's amazing when it gets a ton of rain and the sage blooms. I've only seen it once in 11 years, the hills turn pinkish-purple as far as you can see.

A very nice memorial to your father Eric....Langtry is indeed a beautiful area...I've been fortunate to be able to visit the region at least once a year for the past thirty five years (with the exception of 1986, 1982, and 1981)....it is nice to know the region has such a special meaning to so many folks....gmerker

Eric, I am saddened but at the same time feel a great admiration for your father. I love that he supported your dream or hobby.

I am one of the folks that love West Texas. The smells, the sounds the open sky. I agree with you. When my time comes, sprinkle my ashes to a south east wind over the Pecos.

Best Wishes Sir,

Thanks. We should all be so lucky to live a full life doing the things we enjoy. I know he enjoyed spending the time with me and my son. I know I enjoy spending time with my son now, and I hope he has the same enjoyment with his children when the time comes. Take care of you and yours.
