Can I go on vacation for a week???

rdm01 Oct 30, 2010 01:26 PM

Hey gang!

I might have to go away for a week (max). is it ok to leave my ball python with lights and heat pad setup for a week alone?
Will this be ok?

I have no trusted friends in the area (new to me) and I run my businesses from my home so I'm a sketchy guy about letting neighbours in too.

Thanks everyone!

I leave mine for 5 days at a time... as long as they've been fed and have water and heat, they should be fine.

That is one reason that I love love love snakes

Teresa, would'nt be a bad idea to double up on your thermostats. I have two thermostats on all my racks and it gives me a little piece of mind when I have to leave town for a while. Cheap insurance !!!

i know its not uncommon, but how do you go about running 2 thermostats/rack? thx

Holloway Oct 31, 2010 08:58 AM

I use a Herpstat Proportional and a Ranco on all of racks. I use the Herpstat to control the heat and It's pluged in to the Ranco and the Ranco Pluged into the power sourse. Set the Herpstat to what ever you want your heat at and the Ranco at about Two degrees higher. If the Herpstat was to stick in the on position when you were out of town ,the Ranco would take over to avoid overheating. I hope that makes sense.

As long as you have good equipment providing heat and a big bowl of water, snakes are generally fine while their keepers are out of town for a little while.
