Hey Misty- It's Graham in Texas...I just purchased your pair of Mexican Bairdi from ya. I work with a bunch of okeetees. Animals like yours are referred to as Buckskin Okeetees (like was mentioned already by Tom S. above). Below is a picture of one of my females...

Here's another picture of her...

And a male that I mated with her this year- the babies are FREAKIN' amazing looking- Hopefully his orange will brighten up her genetics some...the borders on all the babies were uber thick. Going to do the same pairing in 2011.

I agree! Is that thing some kind of hypo? The borders appear an off color from my end.

Nope- it's just a kick-butt Okeetee. He's what's referred to as an ABBOVE Okeetee (ABBott X lOVE). The majority of his rear eand blotches started out solid black... some red started bleeding through partially last year.

I paired him with multiple okeetee females last year. My BEST clutch was from the buckskin female... I'm raising up a trio of those babies- they should be jaw droppers. I was a tad dissapointed from the outcome of the other clutches (3 different abbott females)...all were handpicked for THICK borders... the babies were all VERY NICE ABBOTTS but did not my EXTREME Okeetee criteria. My goal is to produce what I'm calling "Halloween Okeetees"--- Okeetees with at least 1/2 SOLID black blotches on a nice pumpkin orange background. It may take me a few more generations but I should be able to get pretty close to what I'm looking for... I have a bunch of other high end corns (Tesseras, Coral Ghosts, Salmon Snows, Patternless, het Scaleless, etc) BUT okeetees have always been some of my favorites...

Thanks Doug, I appreciate it!

Yeah, I'm not real sure if it's not because of the outside bluish light or what, it could be, I guess Graham will have to fill us in on that. But man!, the orange and red is insane either way!..LOL!

A lot of times without making certain camera compensations, cloudy outside blue light can make stuff look very different.

We both know how agravating snake pics can be sometimes..LMAO!!

It's my crappy camera skills Doug.... here's the most recent pictures taken of him a few months back (the same day the Buckskin female's pics were taken).

Gsc Nov 01, 2010 05:18 AM

Here's the picture of him as a baby. The picture belongs (was taken by) Randy Whittington... Randy produced this animal and I consider myself VERY lucky to have talked him out of it. About everything Randy produces are "top shelf" animals... I doubt Randy will mind me posting the pic he took of this boy as a baby since my camera skill suck so bad. lol

Here's one of my horrible pics of him as a yearling:

I agree!, Randy definitely has some real "top-shelf" stuff!

That is really cool that you were able to talk him out of that killer specimen.

Certainly nothing wrong with those nice photo's Graham!, or the other one either for that matter

Man, if I saw that killer snake in a tree like that in the wild, I would be absolutely STUNNED with adrenaline!,,HAHAA!

My LORD that thing is just INCREDIBLE!!

BTW, how is the Nogales(Santa Cruz) king doing? I would imagine he is eating you out of house and home as he was here..LOL!

The Nogales king is doing awesome- very very neat snake... I'll be breeding him this coming season to a female from a county or two over (she's a WC & SOLID black)...

DMong Nov 04, 2010 10:19 AM

That's awesome Graham!......glad the boy is doing great, and that you like him alot as well. Yes, he really is a VERY interesting snake, and very well-mannered too.

Good luck with the pairing!

Graham that snake is stunning! I still see a slightly different tinge in the colors. The black has a slightly purple color. I don't think it's your camera, but then I haven't seen it in person. Congratulations, and i may look you up next season and see if you get some babies from this guy.

Your Okeetees are definitely some of the nicest ever seen. Your photography isn't all that bad. Anxious to see how some of those babies from the buckskin turn out.

WHen I first looked at the picture (after the initial WOW that's nice!) I thought...Jungle Corn...but I read through the other replies...never heard of 'Buckskin Okeetee'...but kept reading...and looked more closely at the pictures nad the pattern...pattern is definitely cornsnake... and I pulled up some random Jungle corn snake pics and though the coloration is similar...the pattern is no where near and the heads are distinctively hybrid in appearance... The cornsnake pictured above definitely has corn snake heads too.

Guess I just never seen Buckskin Okeetee's before... and they are great!

Beautiful animals.

I wonder though..if they are a kind of hyper axanthic? (or would it be hyper anery) basically increased yellow pigment.. I know we can have hypo melanism...low black...and hyper malanism...high black... can't see why we can't have high and low levels of the other pigments naturally occuring in corns...cause these buckskins..that seems to be what is going on in them...
