Spider female; what to mate?

varanid Oct 31, 2010 02:23 AM

I've got my spider female (as well as 1.1 normals) and want to buy a mate for her this season or maybe early 2011. She's got at least another season anyhow.
I'm debating a pastel (which would produce pastels, spiders and bumblebees) or a mojave (I don't know what that would do).

any thoughts? I'm more into retics and kings but one or two ball pairs are nice to have. I've got a pair of retics and my regular balls locked up and some kings in the cooler for the year...hoping to use the funds from those to buy additional breeding stock; 1 albino superdwarf female retic, and one male co-dom ball, and maybe 1-2 female florida kings...

A Super Pastel male would be a good choice. It would give you alot better results ,with out costing much more. You could add super pastels and killer bees to that clutch.

Super pastel would be a good choice, but the results would be Pastels and Bumblebees, no Killerbees. On the plus side, no normals either.

what do they run? I'm anting to keep under 300. I'm planning on buying a superdwarf albino or het albino retic in 2011 and that'll be my big expenditure (along with some double het white side and hypo, and hypo and axanthic brooks kings). I've only got around 3 grand to play with for all the animals and an SD het albino will be a lot of that.

From what I've seen you're looking at more like $400-$500 for a 2010 baby....

Lesser or pastel lesser male would make a nice pair with a spider female. Pinstripe or pastel pinstripe make nice spider crosses too.

I would go for a pinstripe or if you can swing it a pastel pinstripe. Or a Pastel Yellowbelly.

Personally I think your best bet would be a mojave spider.

Here is a photo of a female I produced this year.

I'm looking forward to breeding my bumhble bee to several of my female gold blush mojaves to produce more of these gems, and with a little luck maybe a gold blush mojave bumble bee.

Good luck with your decision

As you may have noticed, there is no shortage of opinions here. And you know what they say about opinions! LOL
So allow me to add my 2 cents.... Have you thought about an Enchi?

I ahve but I'm not up on BP genetics; what's the difference between a pastel and an Enchi Pastel? For t5he longest time I thought they were the same thing.

I'm liking that picture of the mojave spider though! Sweet looking snake.

A super pastel was previously suggested...which I breed to a spider. You will get nice bumblebees and pastels. You will not get super pastels and killerbees from spider x super pastel. You have to have pastel coming from both parents for those results...good luck.
