Starting Aurora House snakes

Carl_A Sep 26, 2003 08:32 AM

I've started plenty of snakes, but I just acquired a hatchling Aurora House and he's not taking pinkies yet. Another Aurora I have is scarfing them down, but she's a yearling.

Are hatchlings lizard feeders then? Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Carl

You might be right about the anole feeding. I've read that some hatchling house snakes will only take anoles (lizards of some sort), or pinkies scented with lizards. I've tried offering lizard-scented pinks to a couple stubborn hatchlings I had but to no avail. Both ended up dieing. However, two other hatchlings from the same clutch readily took pinkies so go figure. Try scenting and see if that works.
