A Funny Breeding Story

kevinvs Nov 01, 2010 01:05 PM

Sooooo, this is my first year of breeding. I am planning on breeding my three males (lesser, spider and pastel-yellowbelly-50% het albino) to my two normal females. Well here is the story, I was cleaning the spiders cage, so I put him in temporarily with the pastel-yellowbelly until his cage was back in place. I have been cooling for about three weeks now, and when I came back to put him in his own cage, I find that the two have their tails twisted around each other. So my first thought is, homosexuality in the snake world? Then it dawned on me that I never did sex this snake from the breeder. Sure enough the breeder sold me a female spider instead of a male. Maybe this is a good thing, I don't know, but either way the spider isn't large enough to breed as a female, so back to the warm rack for her! Next season pray for BumbleBee-Yellowbeliies! Just thought I would share my surprise with everyone!

I had a similar thing happen. I bought a "male" from one of my buddies that always said "this is the biggest male you will ever see!" well he decided to get rid of it so i snaged it from him, 3 weeks later i had 6 eggs from that huge male! best thing was he kept it with his male pinstripe, so i bought a "male" for 25 bucks then got 5 pinstripes and 1 normal! who knew males could lay eggs!?!?!?!? haha

so how old is the spider? how many grams? you would be surprised at what size many breeders have had females lay eggs. id still be prepared with her and keep an eye out. dont dismiss the one breeding, it may have taken.

When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

Are you sure it is a female? Males will mate with other males. I dont think it is a sexual proclivity as it is a dominance thing, or just that the males is ready to go and nothing will stop him, not even the fact that it is another male. I have seen one male snake mate with another male snake...the bigger fella usually has his way with the little guy.. Yiicks!
