Size-CHECK--Lets talk about ANERY now

Jeff Schofield Nov 01, 2010 09:34 PM

Putting to bed that other arguement I got a new pic in my email today so lets open that other can of worms. Though I neither found nor produced what I would claim as either a Green or a Anery I still contend that baby anerys turn into the super clean "green" adults. Carl Bartlett hatched one out a couple years ago and though she isnt a fast grower from these 3 pics I think you can see how she is trending. First pic is of her as a hatchling, I have found more "obvious" baby anerys, but in a clutch no doubt what she is. Years ago again, bad pics, no complainers please, LMAO. Clean banding, colors more apparant in person.

Before anyone says anything about the pic, Carl took it! I cropped it and dimmed the resolution but obvious purple overtones right? I think last year I had a consensus that yes there were Anerys but still not convinced that they turn into the GREEN ones...

Now Carl just sent me this, congrats as Carl too has appreciably improved camera work. She is no longer the typical purple, nice clean bands, and dare I say .....GREENISH?? I see it but I will post a couple more adult GREENS for comparison. See if you can see what I do remembering that this snake has not finished its metamorphisis.....

This is what I consider a female ANERY, with ALOT of flak from the critics. What do you think now?

Just a part of him but the GREEN gets accentuated as they age it seems. Unlike alot of other "typical" easterns the banding is as clean as any I have seen approaching 4'. This guy never ate and was released. Note the normal looking one in the pic for color comparison. Anyone want to change their mind or get off the fence yet?

Looks like it to me.

Anyone?

Now ALL of these MONSTERS are from one very small population, and while I havent proved anything yet, as some say pics say 1000 words. Its way too coincidental. Carl deserves the credit for being able to keep her going, better than my luck for sure. So you see from these pics of at least 5 different MONSTERS that there is certainly variation within what I consider a morph....and that variation is outside the normal variation of "typical" Easterns. Correct? Discuss civilly please.

Is that snake laying eggs in?

Milks are commonly found around bogs here and they are comfortable in moist peat when laying. I dont use it on many snakes, it gets really messy but it holds moisture well. I do not incubate in it but it does well in laying chambers for those skittish layers.

Pictures arent bad at all, and show a definite difference between the 2 snakes.
