Baby res growth rate

uncg2005 Sep 26, 2003 10:28 AM

Just wanted to see if peoples opinions on what a good growth rate for hatchling res in first year. I've had more experience with eastern painted turtles and using the a painted turtle of similar size for comparison the res growth rate has been much slower. As for diet of my turtles i feed a varying diet of pellets, feeder fish, frozen brine shrimp, frozen blood worms, and live plants. They're housed in 55 gal aquarium, little over half filled with water, with basking platform, water temp around 78. So just looking for other peoples experience with growth rate

I think the key thing is you want slow, even growth.
It sounds like you are feeding a good diet. If this helps,
my babies are now 4 years old and are about 4 1/2" and weigh
about 225/250 grams. In my opinion, although they are not
huge for their ages, their growth could have been a little
slower but it was my 1st time with hatchlings so I probably
overfed that 1st year.

Hope this helps
Linda
